Birth Keeper Services
My role as your birth keeper is to be 100% committed to you and your family.
A birth keeper is a non medical care-giver whom supports a woman throughout her pregnancy (usually from 30 weeks onwards) labour and birth, providing her and her family with childbirth education, continuity of care, breathing techniques and active labouring and birthing positions, support for both her and her partner - mentally, physically and emotionally, reassurance, relaxation techniques and massage.
Initially I recommend we have an obligation free, casual meet up over coffee.to allow us to get to know one another, and for you to decide if you would like to employ me as your birth keeper, generally this is done in a central and convenient location.
If you decide to go ahead with my services then we will plan to meet 1-2 times during your pregnancy either at your home or a location of your choosing, the purpose of these meets are for us to discuss your desires for the babies birth and for me to help you work out your best options, we will discuss any fears or anxieties you have and also what things you are most looking forward too, and if there is anything you would like to incorporate into your birthing journey.
We will go through basic childbirth education covering what contractions involve, the stages of labour, hormones and catecholamines, natural pain relief methods and more!
We will carefully put together your birth plan and birthing preferences, and we will ensure your partner is armed with the knowledge and tools they need to help support you throughout your birthing journey.
While you are in labour I will tend to any needs be them physical - helping you get more comfortable with positioning or massage, Mental/Emotionally - assisting with relaxation techniques, breathing and debriefing anything that may suddenly come up. Or manage the environment with music etc. I will remind you to use the toilet and provide you with hydration and nourishment also. I will assist your partner on ways to help support you if that is what you both desire.
Once your baby has been born, I will stay with you to ensure that you and your baby are happy and settled.
I will then stay in touch and arrange to revisit a few days later during these postnatal visits we can debrief your labour and I can assist in helping write a birth story if you wish, I can assist in helping you learn basic baby wearing techniques, we can discuss any feeding issues and I can assist with settling into a routine, I will provide you with a nourishing new mother meal/snack or lactation cookies and help with anything else that may come up for you where I can.

Placenta Encapsulation ServicesThe placenta is an organ that a woman’s body creates in order to help grow and nourish a baby!
The only organ your body will grow only to be discarded at a later stage, it is the link and mediator between mother and growing baby, supplying nutrients and oxygen from the mothers blood to the babies blood without ever intermingling, truly amazing! The placenta secretes hormones which are required to sustain pregnancy, these hormones include oxytocin, cortisone, prostaglandins and prolactin among others. The placenta is your growing babies lifeline and is so extremely important, often the forgotten hero in pregnancy. |
Placenta encapsulation has many benefits these include but are not limited to;
- Lowering chances of developing post natal depression and other post partum mood disorders
- Increasing energy and reducing stress
- Decreasing postnatal aches and pains
- Reducing postpartum bleeding
- Preventing anemia / replenishing iron levels
- Increasing breastmilk supply
- Stabilizing hormones
- Builds immune system
- Increases iron levels
- Assisting the uterus in returning to prenatal state
Whats in the Placenta?
The placenta is a rich source of nutrients, hormones and other biochemical substances.
Here are the substances it’s known to contain and their effects.
Oxytocin – the hormone of love, bonding, protection; promotes mother/baby bonding; helps the uterus to return to normal size and reduces postnatal bleeding; decreases pain; counteracts the production of stress hormones and enhances the breastfeeding let-down reflex
Prolactin – the hormone involved in stimulating milk production; also enhances maternal instinct
Prostaglandins – anti-inflammatory hormones regulate the uterine contractions after birth, also help uterus return to its pre-pregnancy size
Haemoglobin / Iron – vital for energy, mental health and immune system. Helps combat anaemia or postnatal iron deficiency; rebuilds iron stores after birth
Gonadotrophin – the precursor to oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone
Human Placental Lactogen (hPL) – has lactogenic and growth-promoting properties; also regulates maternal glucose, protein and fat levels
Placental Opioid-Enhancing Factor (POEF) – stimulates the production of your body’s natural opioids, including endorphins; reduces pain; increases well being
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone – regulates the thyroid gland, balancing metabolism and energy levels
Interferon and Gammaglobulin – both stimulate the immune system protecting against infection
Urokinase Inhibiting Factor & Factor XIII – helps reduce bleeding and enhances wound healing
Cortisone – combats stress and unlocks energy stores in body
